Director of Workforce Development

Job Overview: 

The Director of Workforce Development leads initiatives within the energy industry to develop a skilled workforce pipeline. Through direct assistance to member companies, leadership in connecting and mobilizing stakeholders to take effective local and state-wide action, the incumbent drives change to ensure the industry and its companies are supported by a trained, diverse workforce representative of the communities they serve.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Lead workforce development-focused programs for the energy industry and support industry companies with their strategic workforce development needs.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to CEWD member companies on workforce development strategies and guide these companies in adapting CEWD resources to address their strategic priorities.
  • Manage the redevelopment of CEWD’s Energy Industry Fundamentals program (oversee contractors, facilitate input from SMEs, seek content and directional guidance from work team, etc.).
  • Coordinate networking convenings and any actions of select peer groups, including Workforce Planning Council, Data Analytics Community of Practice, Learning Leaders Community of Practice, National Energy Educators Network, etc.
  • Manage projects associated with energy-focused curriculum for students.
  • Support the industry’s training enterprise leaders in their collaboration on strategic training needs. 
  • Serve as a resource for educators interested in learning more about the industry. 
  • Represent the industry at career-focused events and assist in representing CEWD at energy industry programs.
  • Manage established regional consortia (partnership between industry, education, and workforce) and help facilitate creation of new ones, where interest exists.  
  • Through ongoing education, research and member relations, become a recognized resource on industry workforce development challenges and opportunities.
  • Draft or oversee the drafting of workforce-oriented resource tools for use by industry professionals. 
  • Work with Executive Director in cultivating and nurturing partnerships and activities with organizations that can funnel talent into the industry.
  • Other responsibilities and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director. 


  • Demonstrated experience in workforce development initiatives
  • Experience with the energy industry, particularly in positions connected to education, training, workforce development, workforce planning, organizational consulting, etc.
  • Eagerness to assist industry companies grappling with workforce pipeline challenges
  • Customer service orientation
  • Excellence in project management, organizational, and public speaking skills 
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and listening skills
