CEWD Explores Removing Barriers to Hiring from the Re-Entry Population

The Department of Corrections is considering adding CEWD’s Energy Industry Fundamentals curriculum into the corrections system. To support consideration of the process, CEWD would like to speak with energy companies that currently hire those who have been incarcerated and those who are considering doing so. Biden Administration To Fund Training For Non-Degree Clean Energy Jobs

February 23, 2024

The Biden Administration announced a new $24 million funding opportunity to support clean energy workforce training opportunities that do not require traditional 4-year college degrees. The funding establishes Industrial Assessment Centers with the mission to support small and medium sized business to:

         Reduce energy waste and improve productivity;

         And provide students, apprentices, and incumbent workers with training and development opportunities at these small and medium-sized businesses. 

 

ComEd’s Black History Month STEM Labs Program

February 21, 2024

In honor of Black History Month, ComEd brought together 75 African American high school students in Chicago at their STEM Lab Experience. This Experience offered hands-on learning opportunities to enrich the STEM education for students and connect them with black mentors who have similar life experiences as them, so these students could see themselves in the STEM field.

 

Urban League Hosting Job Fair for Spire Next Tuesday

The Urban League of St Louis sheds light on the Urban Energy Jobs Program and partners with Spire Energy to host a Job Fair this February. Interviews are conducted on the spot for currently open positions at Spire Energy, and receive support for the application process. A similar job fair in the past result in 6 hires, bringing over $.5 million in income to the community.

 

Charging Up America: The Growth of United States Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Jobs

January 23, 2024

Many sectors are looking to the energy sector as they chart the path to become more sustainable. The transportation sector is no different. However, electrifying the transportation sector will require research and development, including new infrastructure and technology. A new report form the International Council on Clean Transportation projects the number of jobs created by the expansion of electric light-duty vehicle (LDV) and medium- and heavy-duty vehicle (MHDV) charging infrastructure to meet annual charging needs through 2032. Notably, estimates show that growth in US charging infrastructure for LDV and MHDV can create more than 160,000 jobs by 2032.
