Center for Energy Workforce Development Publishes DE&I Roadmap for Industry Change
Collaborative industry report supports multi-year initiative to ensure a diverse energy workforce

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 17, 2022 – The Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) and its partners announced the DE&I Roadmap for Industry Change during this week’s annual Workforce Development Summit, a premier forum for industry leaders focused on strategic workforce planning and best practice sharing. The industry-wide roadmap, a first of its kind in the energy sector, aims to create more diverse, equitable, and inclusive energy workplaces.

“Diversity, equity, and inclusion are key pillars that support workforce development at its core. People want to see themselves in the workforce and know they’ll be supported as their authentic selves,” said Missy Henriksen, Executive Director at CEWD. “I’m proud of this work and what it means to strengthen the future of our energy workforce and ensure everyone has a seat at the table.”

The roadmap is a culmination of input and best practices from more than 200 energy industry leaders and professionals over the course of two years. It is intended to unify the energy industry and empower companies to bolster their own diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across the country.

Its mission statement reflects the integrity of DE&I as well as the importance of building a workforce that reflects the communities it serves.

We believe people matter. In the energy industry we strive to be reflective of the diverse communities in which we operate. It is our commitment to our colleagues, customers, and future leaders that we drive change and positively impact the communities we serve. Our commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion is rooted in the belief that diversity of experience, backgrounds, and perspectives leads to better outcomes for our customers, employees, and communities. That’s why we proudly stand behind this DE&I Roadmap for Industry Change, dedicated to shaping a meaningful and sustainable plan to foster equitable and inclusive workplaces, with diverse perspectives that will enable us to become a stronger industry and better shape a more sustainable energy future.

The report was created in partnership with the American Gas Association, American Public Gas Association, American Public Power Association, Distribution Contractors Association, Edison Electric Institute, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Nuclear Energy Institute, and the Utilities Technology Council.
