Center for Energy Workforce Development Welcomes the Clean Power Institute as National Association Partner
Collaboration strengthens energy workforce solutions, enhances sector stewardship
WASHINGTON, DC, January 21, 2025 – The Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) today announced the inclusion of the Clean Power Institute (CPI), a non-profit entity of American Clean Power Association (ACP), as its newest national association partner, adding its voice and vision to CEWD programs that support the development of a skilled, diverse energy workforce. This partnership aims to elevate cross-sector collaboration within the energy industry.
“We are thrilled to welcome CPI to CEWD’s collaborative community of partners who believe in and advocate for person-first workforce development initiatives essential for fueling the energy evolution,” said Missy Henriksen, CEWD’s executive director. “We have long valued ACP’s sector expertise and have been excited to watch the development of CPI. I know the future of our partnership is bright, strengthening our ability to develop resources and programming to raise awareness of energy careers and support workforce needs of the industry’s full ecosystem,” Henriksen emphasized.
Laura Wilson Phelan, senior vice president of strategy for ACP and executive director of CPI, shared enthusiasm about partnering with CEWD, noting “the move enhances CPI’sprogramming to build, train, and diversify the clean energy workforce.”
Since 2021, ACP has championed policies that will transform the U.S. power grid and clean energy industry to a reliable and renewable power system. Its member companies represent a cross-section of America’s clean energy industry and work together to advance energy innovation. CPI was officially formed in 2024 to advance work done by ACP’s commitment to workforce development.
“We want to spread the word about the high-quality jobs this industry offers,” Phelan added. “The spirit of collaboration in our workforce efforts will enhance our collective ability to attract, train, and retain the essential workforce to meet America’s rising energy needs.”
CPI joins 10 other national association partners working with CEWD to support the industry’s historic talent needs, including American Gas Association, American Public Gas Association, American Public Power Association, Association of Energy Services Professionals, Distribution Contractors Association, Edison Electric Institute, Electric Power Research Institute, INGAA Foundation, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, and the Nuclear Energy Institute. These organizations, employer partners, labor groups, educators, and others work collectively to increase visibility of energy careers, support training and career preparedness, remove systemic barriers that hinder career access, provide resources and essential tools, ensure the industry’s voice is heard by those who influence critical workforce development practices, and harness the strength of the industry for effective action.
Paired with the adoption of the new Energy and Natural Resources Career Cluster within the National Career Cluster Framework, CEWD’s growing list of national association partners and supporters is a pivotal step in helping the industry hire 32 million workers over the next decade.
