Let’s Recruit Veterans

CEWD just released this new video to help veterans learn more about how to use the Troops to Energy Jobs resources. Feel free to download it and add it to your company’s outreach efforts. Let’s tell our story.

It’s Time for Pride and Seek!

Shape the 2023 Workforce Development Summit that will take place November 14-16 in the Washington, DC area! It’s time for Pride and Seek! Have a lot of pride in a workforce development program you are doing that you’d like to talk about at the Summit OR seeking information on a particular topic that you’d like to know about? Let us know here. This is your opportunity to customize the learning experience to help you and the industry.

Checking in on EIF Curriculum Development

Thanks for the incredible efforts of our contributors, Subject Matter Experts, and Steering Committee, the revised Energy Industry Fundamentals curriculum is well underway toward a late summer release. This new 120 hour curriculum is being designed to connect learners with energy and the industry’s incredible career paths. Check out the draft course architecture that will guide the education students will explore. Thank you to those who have stepped up to fund this important work. Please consider joining them.

Local CEWD Convenings

The first of CEWD’s Regional Meetings took place earlier this week in New Orleans. Sincere appreciation to Entergy for welcoming and hosting an incredible event. (The Entergy team is pictured at left.) Industry professionals gathered to discuss a host of topics related to recruiting and developing talent. If you missed the forum in the Big Easy, there are three additional programs that will be held in the coming months, in Las VegasNew York, and Chicago, for which you can register. Check out the agenda that will shape each meeting. Registration for the Las Vegas program will close on April 5th.

Seeking Companies Interested in Partnering with Local Urban League Affiliates

CEWD has been working with the National Urban League, energy companies, and Urban League affiliates in select communities for the past several months on programming that will support people from systemically marginalized communities in preparing for opportunities in the energy sector. We are now ready to explore scaling this collaboration in other communities.

Let us know if you are interested in:

1) expanding the diversity of candidates in your Registered Apprenticeship Programs

2) expanding the diversity of candidates for other positions within your business

3) establishing pre-apprenticeship programs that will prepare people for energy careers

4) learning more about collaborating with an Urban League affiliate in your community

Things That Caught Our Eye

The Joint Center published findings earlier this month that addresses “the state” of Black Registered Apprentices in the United States and recommended actions. Read more here.

Advance CTE recently shared Contribution to Society: Exploring Purpose-Driven Framing for Career Pathways. One of the biggest take-aways form the research shows that “the most effective framing of a program of study – for both learners and employers – links a learner’s contribution to society to their career goals.” Read more and download the full report here.

CEWD Hosts Panel for Workforce Board Leaders

CEWD hosted a panel at the National Association of Workforce Boards annual conference this week on Preparing for the Growth of America’s Clean Energy Workforce. Thank you to Portland General Electric’s David Fortney and Southern Company’s Joseph Lillyblad for representing the industry and explaining expected hiring demand, key job competencies, and training opportunities.

Seeking New Leaders

CEWD will soon begin the process of slating candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. If you are a senior leader within your company and are interested in guiding industry initiatives to serve a skilled, diverse energy workforce, please contact Missy Henriksen.
