Celebrate the Industry’s Workforce Development Progress Through CEWD’s 2022 Annual Report
Thanks to engagement from hundreds of volunteers and leadership from CEWD’s Board of Directors, 2022 proved to be a watershed year for the organization’s commitment to building a skilled, diverse energy workforce. Review the progress that was made in the 2022 Annual Report. CEWD is grateful to the organizations that support our work and allow us to serve as the industry’s workforce development leader.
Registration for CEWD’s Regional Meetings is Open
After a three-year hiatus, CEWD’s popular regional meetings are back! This year’s programming will bring us to New Orleans, Chicago, Las Vegas, and New York. We are grateful to our hosts at Entergy, ComEd, the Nevada Workforce Connections, and National Grid for their willingness to open their facilities for peer-networking and information exchange. Check out the universal agenda that will drive discussion at each of the programs here. CEWD members may register for the free events here.
Plan Your 2023 Learning Journey
In addition to the regional meetings, CEWD will offer dozens of other ways to learn from industry peers and workforce development leaders in the year ahead. Check out:
- CEWD’s 2023 Calendar of Events here.
- Mark your calendar for the 2023 Summit that will take place November 14-16 at the Gaylord National, just outside of Washington, D.C, in Fort Washington, Maryland.
- Participate in our new quarterly CEWD Community Days. We will tell you more about these networking and information sharing opportunities next week.
Exelon Contributes $100,000 to Support New EIF Curriculum
Thanks to the incredible generosity of Exelon’s $100,000 contribution to the revitalization of the Energy Industry Fundamentals program and the generosity of our other donors: CenterPoint Energy, Constellation, Duke Energy, National Urban League, and PSEG, CEWD has raised 63% of the funds needed to ensure dynamic, modernized energy curriculum gets into the hands of our future workforce. The new curriculum is scheduled for completion this August, in time for the new school year. Click here to learn more about the updated curriculum and click here to learn about how to support the remaining work to be done.
Seeking Companies Interested in Partnering with Local Urban League Affiliates
CEWD has been working with the National Urban League, energy companies, and Urban League affiliates in select communities for the past several months on programming that will support people from systemically marginalized communities in preparing for opportunities in the energy sector. We are now ready to explore scaling this collaboration in other communities.
Let us know if you are interested in:
1) expanding the diversity of candidates in your Registered Apprenticeship Programs
2) expanding the diversity of candidates for other positions within your business
3) establishing pre-apprenticeship programs that will prepare people for energy careers
4) learning more about collaborating with an Urban League affiliate in your community
Help Is Available for Those Interested in Starting or Expanding Registered Apprenticeships
Interested in developing or expanding a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)? Looking for help with the registration paperwork, processes, procedures, and funding? The Supply Chain Automation Workforce Hub (Hub) can help!
The Hub is a one-stop solution, funded by the Federal Government, that can help recruit and train positions like lineworkers, gas technicians, electricians, and many other occupations (at no charge to employers). The Hub helps:
- Provide support for national and state registration of RAPs
- Conduct education and outreach to key stakeholders about the benefits of RAPs
- Connect interested employers with education and training providers, and workforce organizations
- Assist in outreach and marketing efforts to promote RAPs to potential apprentices with a focus on equity and diversity
- Identify state and federal funding opportunities
- Offer financial incentives and technical assistance to RAP sponsors
The Hub’s Incentive Fund helps sponsors/employers offset the costs of launching RAPs and providing training to apprentices. Sponsors can receive up to $1,000 per apprentice and up to $30,000 per year. For more information, please contact Marjorie Cohen at [email protected] or [email protected].
CEWD Showcases Energy Sector to Veterans
Thousands of veterans attending this year’s Students Veterans of America conference had an opportunity to interact with military recruiters at CEWD’s Troops to Energy Jobs booth. Representatives from AEP, Dominion Energy, and Pike shared information on why the energy sector offers an ideal second career for veterans. Thank you to all those who joined us in opportunities to #getintoenergy.
