I started in the energy field about eight years ago when I was needing a career change from being a certified nursing assistant. When looking through the local college curriculum, I noticed the electric lineman program and it struck up my interest. I signed up for that spring semester and was the only female in my class. I went on to complete the course and got a job working with Pike Electric and eventually made my way to being their first female crew leader. After a few years of doing that I made my way to the engineering side of the business and have worked as a designer, a fielder, a project manager, a supervisor and have completely seen how the work is completed from end to end. Finding my way into this industry, has not only shaped my life, but my husband’s as well. We both completed the course at the same time and have continued our careers for the past eight years and had so many wonderful opportunities to meet different people and travel the country. my best advice for anyone who is interested is just do it. Take the risk and you’d be surprised at all the wonderful adventures and people you’ll meet.
