Center for Energy Workforce Development Applauds Bipartisan Pro Forma Introduction of Careers in Energy Week Resolutions

Resolution recognizes the vital role of the energy workforce during October 20-24, 2025, designated as Careers in Energy Week

WASHINGTON, D.C. —The Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD), a nonprofit consortium committed to the development of a highly skilled energy workforce, applauds the introduction of the Careers in Energy Week resolutions by the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate. The U.S. House of Representatives Careers in Energy Week Resolution was led by Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA) with Rep. Donald Norcross (D-NJ) as co-lead. The original co-sponsors include Reps. Daniel Meuser (R-PA), Marc Veasey (D-TX), Thomas Kean, Jr. (R-NJ), and Troy Carter, Sr. (D-LA). The Senate Careers in Energy Week Resolution was introduced by Sens. Dave McCormick (R-PA) and Elissa Slotkin (D-MI).

Celebrated annually each October, Careers in Energy Week highlights the innovative, highly skilled, and growing energy workforce that is essential to maintaining the nation’s energy infrastructure, keeping homes, businesses, and critical industries running. The observance seeks to raise awareness of the sector’s workforce needs and growing opportunities for those who are prepared to meet the demand.

“The U.S. is a global leader in energy production, and our Careers in Energy Week resolution recognizes and honors the millions of individuals who work to deliver safe and reliable energy and highlights the rewarding career opportunities available for students and adult learners,” said Rep. Thompson.

“As a former electrician, I’m glad to join Congressman Thompson in recognizing the hardworking men and women who power our nation,” said Rep. Norcross. “From the tradespeople who keep the lights on to the engineers building the clean energy systems of tomorrow, these skilled workers are essential to America’s economy. By designating this week as Careers in Energy Week, we are shining a national spotlight on the good-paying jobs and training opportunities that strengthen our communities and our energy future.”

“I’m proud to introduce this resolution honoring the hardworking men and women who power our nation. Our energy workers are the backbone of a sector vital to our national security and economic strength,” said Sen. McCormick. “Whether they are skilled tradespeople maintaining essential infrastructure or engineers and researchers advancing renewable and cutting-edge technologies, millions of Americans work toward keeping our nation’s energy reliable and affordable. This week, we recognize their dedication and thank them for their service to our country.”

“A workforce with advanced skills, expertise and adaptability is vital to ensuring a strong and resilient grid, and FirstEnergy applauds our elected officials for recognizing Careers in Energy Week and the dedicated men and women who work tirelessly to keep our lights on and energy flowing,” said Wade Smith, President, FirstEnergy Utilities. “We are committed to strengthening partnerships and collaboration between industry, educational institutions and government agencies to inspire more people to pursue rewarding careers in energy – helping to build a highly skilled energy workforce that’s ready to power our future.”

“We are thrilled to see bipartisan support prioritizing the recognition of energy careers with such a meaningful designation,” said Missy Henriksen, CEWD’s Executive Director. “This week celebrates careers in energy while making sure the next generation of talent knows how to step into the sector and succeed.”
