Center for Energy Workforce Development Launches Tribal-Focused Education Module
New Enbridge-supported module expands CEWD’s Energy Industry Fundamentals curriculum to address Tribal governance and workforce opportunities
WASHINGTON — The Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) today announced the launch of a new Tribal elective module as part of its Energy Industry Fundamentals (EIF) 2.0 curriculum. Sponsored by Enbridge, the module is the first elective addition to EIF and is designed to support energy education and workforce development within Tribal communities.
The Tribal module is available as part of CEWD’s free EIF 2.0 curriculum, a comprehensive 120-hour curriculum that introduces high school and college students to energy systems and pathways. It serves as an elective course in the curriculum, recognizing the importance of Tribal sovereignty as well as the role Tribal communities hold in energy project development and workforce advancement.
“This new module reflects CEWD’s commitment to expanding energy education in ways that are relevant and responsive to different communities,” said Missy Henriksen, executive director of CEWD. “By adding this elective to Energy Industry Fundamentals, we are strengthening the curriculum and offering different perspectives on what shapes essential work in the industry.”
As sovereign nations, Tribes have unique authority over how energy projects are regulated and developed on their land, creating distinct opportunities for energy infrastructure and economic growth. The new Tribal module builds on EIF’s foundational curriculum by providing tailored education that reflects Tribal governance structures and energy-related considerations specific to Tribal lands.
Enbridge’s support to develop this training reflects the company’s commitment to building strong relationships with Tribal communities while expanding an energy education module for all. The module integrates expert-led insights on energy planning, employment rights, and land development.
“Energy projects and workforce development don’t happen in a vacuum,” said Gail Wahlberg, Manager, Tribal Engagement at Enbridge. “Supporting programs like this help expand understanding of how the energy industry works and how communities engage with it over time. We’re pleased to support CEWD in broadening access to that foundational context.”
The EIF 2.0 curriculum integrates with most learning management systems. Educators, community-based organizations, employers, and others interested in delivering energy education have complimentary access to EIF 2.0 and its associated resources, including curriculum training support.
Students who complete the full EIF 2.0 program, including supplemental modules, can earn industry-recognized credentials that provide a competitive advantage in exploring the energy workforce.
