I’m proud to be part of a trade that has grown and changed so much over the years. As a third-generation lineman, I’ve heard stories from my dad and grandpa about what the job used to be like. My grandpa spent a lot of his career bringing power to people for the very first time. It was dangerous work, all done by hand, and the tools and safety measures we have today didn’t exist.
Looking at where the energy industry is now, I’m proud of the progress that has been made. Improvements in industry safety standards have significantly reduced the risks associated with linework. Technology has transformed how our system is built and maintained, as well as what kinds of loads we serve. Linework remains challenging and ever-changing, but that’s also what makes it so rewarding – knowing that what we do keeps the lights on for our communities. Seeing how far the trade has come from my dad and grandpa’s careers in linework to my job today makes me proud of the work I do.
