CEWD is a non-profit consortium of electric natural gas and nuclear utilities and their associations:  Edison Electric Institute, American Gas Association, Nuclear Energy Institute, and National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. 

CEWD was formed to help utilities work together to develop solutions to the coming workforce shortage in the utility industry. It is the first partnership between utilities, their associations, contractors, and unions to focus on the need to build a skilled workforce pipeline that will meet future industry needs.

Additionally, CEWD is teaming with secondary and post secondary educational institutions and the workforce system to create workable solutions to address the need for a qualified, diverse workforce. CEWD has established a partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

The large contingent of the utility workforce that is represented by the union and the apprenticeship programs that train them are a critical element is the industry solution to workforce issues. Additional partnerships include the Association for Career and Technical Educational, the Energy Providers Coalition for Education, the American Association of Community Colleges, and the National Association of Workforce Boards.

The financial contributions from CEWD’s members have directly supported the following accomplishments:

• The national Get Into Energy web site;
• Careers in Energy materials;
• The development of an Energy Competency Model;
• Sharing of energy curricula from secondary and post- secondary educational institutions;
• An Annual Summit, gathering workforce development leaders from around the country;
• Regional meetings, bringing together industry, education, and workforce;
• Results of Industry surveys to determine the industry’s greatest employment needs;
• Access to organizations implementing best practices;
• All-inclusive toolkits; and
• The launch of state energy consortia around the country;

Company Membership

Company members of EEI, NEI, AGA, and NRECA are eligible for a company membership.

The energy company member contribution schedule is as follows:

• More than 15,000 employees - $25,000
• 10,000 - 14,999 employees - $20,000
• 7,599 - 9,999 employees - $15,000
• 5,000 - 7,499 employees - $10,000
• 2,500 - 4,999 employees - $5,000
• 1,000 - 2,499 employees - $2,500
• 101 - 999 employees - $1,000
• Under 100 employees - $500

Regional and Local Energy Association

National, Regional, and Local Energy Associations can become CEWD members.  Associations can join on behalf of all their employees and the contribution will be based on the total number of employees as shown above, or the Association can join as an individual entity.

The energy member Association contribution schedule is as follows:

• National association contributions are negotiated.
• Regional (multi-state) associations - $5,000
• Local Associations - $1,000

Contractor Membership

The contractor member contribution schedule is as follows:

• More than $1 billion in U.S. Revenue - $25,000
• $500 million - $1 billion - $20,000
• $250 million - $499 million - $15,000
• Less than $250 million - $7,500

Non-Utility Firms

Non-Utility Firms eligible to join CEWD are either:

• Contractors and vendors performing work on site at a member utility or directly on a utilities transmission and distribution system such as system engineering, construction, operation and maintenance, equipment testing, refurbishment and repair, and customer service; or
• Contractors and vendors performing work off site for a member utility, such as engineering modifications, component fabrication, equipment refurbishment, equipment manufacturing, and equipment testing.

 The non-utility member contribution schedule is as follows:

• More than $1 billion in U.S. Revenue - $25,000
• $500 million - $1 billion - $20,000
• $250 million - $499 million - $15,000
• Less than $250 million - $7,500

Secondary and Post Secondary Educational Institutions

Educational institutions may become educational members by recommendation of a sponsoring member company.  Educational members agree to share information on curriculum, structure and results for individual programs.
